The largest restored wetlands in Massachusetts now cover hundreds of acres of what used to be cranberry farms.
New open access paper! π Rare earth elements, not so rare? In a wetland below an abandoned Colorado silver mine, REEs were more concentrated than cadmium and lead. Unlike trace metals, they persisted in impacted wetlands. What does this mean for how we monitor and remediate mine-impacted water? π§ͺβοΈπ
Reactive #wildfire responses leave gaps in water research. New paper presents a framework from 5 case studies (including our work after the Camp Fire!) showing how proactive co-production between scientists, water agencies & communities can build resilience π₯π§π§ͺ www.frontiersin.org/journals/wat...
During the pandemic, the world stood still β and many lakes became measurably clearer. A global study shows that #lockdowns caused water #turbidity in lakes worldwide to drop sharply ππ§

It's official: This is Colorado's lowest peak snowpack on record.
Statewide snowpack is just 24% of average, by far our lowest peak snowpack in 38 years of official records.
April 8 = Colorado's peak average statewide snowpack date (a bit later north, earlier south).

Holy smokes! An incredible start to the 'Wildfire Season' in the US this year - owing to an abnormally hot and snowless winter in some parts of the country.
The IAGD is calling for nominations for the 2026 IGER Award!
We want to recognize work that furthers our mission for accessible and inclusive geoscience education and practice. Students are eligible.

Colorado statewide snowpack has fully melted off, per latest NWCC data.
That marks the earliest snowpack melt since 2018, and the 5th-earliest on record (since 1987). Itβs also about two weeks earlier than average.
This also fully opens the door for summer fire season.
