Some early-career disruptive researchers may see their careers stop early. Academic careers are often about becoming increasingly specialized over time. One remains creative well beyond 40, but creativity and risk-taking are not part of the job’s core incentives or requirements, past this age.

🚨 We discovered a new mode of Hox gene regulation in annelids! 🪱 A distal enhancer acts as a "global control region", lifting Hox genes from Polycomb repression. This is reminiscent of Hox gene control in vertebrates, but the two modes likely evolved convergently.
