Happy Juneteenth! Today we celebrate the freeing of 250,000 slaves in Galveston, TX on June 19, 1865. Though the Emancipation Proclamation was issued on Jan. 1, 1863, it wasn’t until the Union Army arrived in Galveston two months after the end of the Civil War, 1/3
For years, the United States has chosen incremental progress over structural transformation, treating anti-Black systemic racism as a problem to manage rather than dismantle.
Now we face one of the most significant attacks on American democracy and civil rights that many of us have ever seen.
