Googled "how long for algae to bloom in standing water": it can start in 24 to 48 hours and 'bloom' in as little as 3 days. I believe this was a combination of the 2: Water and the conditions of the pool: paint, sun, temperature, etc. It does not take an entire summer for an algae bloom to form.
