Having 4 parties regularly polling over 15% in first past the post is a recipe for disaster. A coalition at the next election is inevitable, but we're also going to have hundreds of deeply unpopular local MPs. MPs will get elected with 3 in 4 having voted against them.

The latest donation figures are a reminder of how dependent UK politics has become on very wealthy individuals. A cap on donations would help ensure political influence is not determined by the size of someone's bank account.
