For many Republicans it’s actually stupider: They think the only reason anyone cares about the measurements is because they’re being measured.
It’s the same logic where Trump wanted to stop COVID testing so the tally would stop climbing.

Insane self-blinding of the US. They are throwing away their investment in the ocean observation system and the benefits it provides.
The only explanation I can think of: they don’t want the people to know what their fossil emissions are doing to our oceans.
