I’m wearing orange on Gun Violence Awareness Day in honor of Hadiya Pendleton, and every person impacted by gun violence.
At just 15-years-old, Hadiya was shot and killed while at a park in Chicago—one week after performing in President Obama’s inauguration. Her whole life was ahead of her.
Today, I’m mourning my friend Melissa and her husband Mark, as we mark one year since they were assassinated in their home. Melissa was a dedicated public servant who worked every day to improve the lives of Minnesotans. That should never have cost her or her husband their lives.
My friend @debhaalandnm.bsky.social is determined to fight crime, protect New Mexican families and create a future free from gun violence across the state.
Under her leadership, New Mexico families can trust that their governor will lead the fight to save lives. I am proud to endorse her, and can’t wait for her to become the first female Native American governor in our country.

Today, I joined survivors and families in Orlando for the 10th annual Baquiné, a beautiful celebration of life in memory of the 49 lives stolen at Pulse nightclub 10 years ago.
Love is always stronger than hate. Together, we can build a future where we are all safe to love free from gun violence.
I’ll never forget the heartbreak I felt 10 years ago today when 49 people were killed and 53 others were injured in a hate-driven shooting at Pulse nightclub — the deadliest single attack on the LGBTQ community in our country’s history. They were celebrating Pride, and they should have been safe.
