The Air Quality Index (AQI) is primarily designed to measure regional, ambient criteria pollutants over 24-hour averages. It is drastically underrepresenting what residents from Ventura to Long Beach are experiencing for several reasons, importantly that AQI does NOT measure large ash particles.
