🚨 New publication in collab with Shayna Rosenbaum's lab: "Aphantasia is associated with spatial memory and navigation difficulties in complex virtual environments" Our test SeaHeroQuest shows a correlation between nav performance and mental imagery (VVIQ) www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
1/ We work hard to factor "noise" out of behavior. But the brain doesn't. Strip away noise and you may miss what the brain evolved to do I wanted to share this pre-Bluesky paper where we found premotor (M2) corticostriatal circuits encode a broad history of behavior, beyond just action + reward 👇
🌟 Out in Clinical Psychology Review after years in the making: Pleased to share the 1st meta-analytic network analysis (MAGNA) investigating core maintaining features of anxiety symptoms pooling 156 networks (N = 303,151). w/Belli, Tichelaar, @sachaepskamp.bsky.social & @cycology.bsky.social 🧵:

New article out in @natcomms.nature.com : Context induces distortions in value representations across multiple elicitation methods and learning modalities, with Magda Soukupova (first author) and @bsgarcia.bsky.social www.nature.com/articles/s41...
Our newest finding: tiny microsaccades are biased toward the location that is about to be attentionally suppressed. This suggests that attention briefly precedes suppression: before the system can suppress a location, it first appears to select it.

A model of how beta and gamma rhythms impact synaptic integration in pyramidal neurons. Spatially targeted inhibitory rhythms differentially affect neuronal integration doi.org/10.7554/eLif... #neuroscience
New MEG preprint out! Huge congrats to postdoc Rohit Yadav. We (among other things…) decoded explore-exploit decisions in the human brain, revealing the lateral frontopolar cortex kicks off the shift to exploration hundreds of milliseconds before the choice itself. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
🔆 Good morning! Habitual coffee intake shapes the gut microbiome and modifies host physiology and cognition🧪 www.nature.com/articles/s41... Reveals unrecognised effects of coffee on microbiota–gut–brain axis, suggesting that microbiome profiles could potentially predict coffee consumption patterns
Prior experience is used by the brain to guide adaptive behaviour during decision making. Here, the authors show that mice also selectively use information learned through recent and longer-term exper...

That’s another grant submitted! This time to hopefully develop focused ultrasound methods for testing models of interoception. Fingers crossed!
