We're looking at how hidden belowground components of ecosystems link to GHG fluxes. Its rare and great to be able to get that kind of continuity! Now I'm bringing new PhD students to the site to take over much of the research. We're looking forward to the next steps! 🌳 ☘️ ☀️ 🌧️ 🖥️

This week some of our @psb-trinity.bsky.social group were installing minirhizotron (root observatory) tubes at the Majadas de Tiétar eddy covariance site in Extremadura, Spain.
Last week, Phoebe, Ian and I were in Valencia for a meeting for our Spanish tree-grass field site. It was lovely seeing all our collaborators and so cool seeing some of @psb-trinity.bsky.social showing off their PhD projects outside of our group. I'm very proud ☺️ root measurements there coming soon!
This site is special to me and its amazing that its a whole decade since I did this last time (on the right, a younger me in 2016). Its been so cool working in fantastic semi-arid ecosystem and many, many fantastic collaborators (too many to tag) for so long!
I am very grateful to to a succession of funding from a MCSF fellowship, @bgc-jena.mpg.de, current projects from @researchireland.ie / @royalsociety.org based at @tcddublin.bsky.social School of Natural Sciences.
🌿🌍🌳⚠️Job alert! ⚠️ Fully funded #PhD in @psb-trinity.bsky.social @tcddublin.bsky.social, looking how plant trait patterns vary and potentially link to ecosystem functioning! Linking in with our current phenology/GHG projects!

Things written on the back of herbarium labels are fascinating. This is a particularly enigmatic scribble. Is it a map?
