Many THANKS to collaborators for helping us with critical samples and datasets! Thank you Richard H. Myers and Adam T. Labadorf for the Parkinson's and Huntington's Disease brain RNA dataset and @brianneconnizzo.bsky.social for the mouse young and old brain samples. Please read the paper!
Salient point#2: A correlation analyses of the TE large RNA and small RNA expression profiles in the human brain indicate distinct regulatory patterns between Huntington’s and Parkinson’s Diseases. #RNASky #TEsky
Finally, thanks to the National Institutes of Health and National Institute of Aging for funding our research here to learn more about how human aging brains and diseased brains modulate transposon RNA expression, with our next goal to examine TE RNAs in Alzheimer’s Disease brains. #RNASky #Tesky
Salient point#1: There is extensive coverage of small RNAs expressed from the human LINE-L1 transposon in normal human brains. SINEs like Alu’s are also significant sources of transposon small RNAs derived from longer RNAs. Normal aging brains lead to more transposon expression. #RNASky #TEsky
Another silver lining to 2026! Please check out our study now published @genomeresearch.bsky.social on the tracking of human brain transposable element large and small RNAs during aging and in two neurodegenerative disorders: Huntington's and Parkinson's Disease genome.cshlp.org/content/36/6...
For anyone who is a scientist or has benefitted from basic research on model organisms (that's EVERYONE), please take the time to leave a comment about priority 1 here: rfi.grants.nih.gov?s=6998c3a23e... by the deadline May 28! I know I wouldn't be here today without modern medicine
Congratulations to my lab team for lifting this paper to publication at @genomeresearch.bsky.social. Gargi Dayama led the study with help from Roxie Jou-Hsuan Lee and Shruti Gupta. Not pictured is Christian Brion who also helped out with analysis and the awesome concept art above.
