it's a stylistic choice, and it's cohesive across the world, but i think where it ran into trouble is when we had a chance to see through Tartah's eyes and his silverwash affected point of view didn't seem very different than anything else thus far. it took me a minute to realize they were different

have the smallest critique of the anime, and it's been something I've been thinking about every time there's a new episode. the backgrounds are beautiful, but interiors and building exteriors are strangely desaturated and grey, even inside the atelier. the primary shadow is rarely tinted with a hue
it's so different than the warm and cool tints/shades they use for the scenes in natural world. i wonder why it's art directed this way!
