Quick question for the peat/biogeochemistry/ecology community- has anyone had any experience using ready-made nylon mesh bags (like those for herbal tea or spices) for decomposition experiments, and is there a product you can recommend?

📢We're recruiting for an exciting new mountain woodland #PhD on "Mountain birch genetics & recovery in Scotland"! Full funding is guaranteed for this project involving molecular genomics & high-altitude field experiments at #Corrour & Mar Lodge. www.findaphd.com/phds/project...
Betteridge's law of headlines strikes again!
That exciting moment when you first put (metaphorical) pen to paper and start writing a new manuscript. This one is all about the Swedish mountain lake sampling I did a few years back, also featuring @wetlandresilienceresearchgroup.com
I enjoyed contributing to this thought-provoking paper led by @jackiewebb.bsky.social. You should read it if you like ditches, canals, constructed wetlands and ponds. You should also read it if you wonder why on earth people like us are interested in these systems.
Another small grant proposal submitted. As ever, I will celebrate getting to this stage, regardless of the panel outcome.
Our next #webinar will feature @peatymike.bsky.social from @liverpooluni.bsky.social talking about the Migneint Bog #LTE in #Wales that has been going since 2011.

#Peatbog #Restoration 🌏
Last week we visited the Migneint Bog #LTE in #Wales.
We met with @peatymike.bsky.social & his team from @liverpooluni.bsky.social & he also demonstrated how the automated water table loggers are stored in situ in the dipwells; equipment that was recently funded through our small grants scheme 🌏
New paper in collaboration with Zhifeng Yan's group at Tianjin University:
Regional flooding enhances N2O and CH4 emissions from agricultural fields: Evidence from a single extreme event across the North China Plain
Paper is OA for now at this link:

A pondy morning at @liverpooluni.bsky.social's botanical garden (Ness Gardens) doing some water quality measurements for the university's sustainability audit.
