As good a summary of what ails the dems as any. A kind of total war has been declared *and is being enacted* (clownishly sure, but still devastatingly) by the other side, and instead of pushing back hard, dems be like, let’s swing more in the direction of their earth-destroying views.
A big issue here is that there is almost zero evidence that dems' moves (tactical or real) to the right have helped them electorally. At all. Voters on the right, who think dems are literal demons, do not care and will not budge. Whom are dems trying to win over besides oil and gas execs?
Yes, and I’ll be more blunt: They are committing gross academic and pedagogical malpractice and are betraying the best ideals of scholarship and education. They should leave educating to actual educators and research to actual researchers.
It’s easy to be mainly adversarial in one’s attitude to higher ed admins (often for…reasons). But we need alliances with any who are sympathetic or open to persuasion. A leader at my inst expressed doubts about AI in lib arts education, and I wrote immediately to encourage him and offer my support.
What is happening at MSG? Oh my.

A point I’d like to add on the administrator angle is that, where we find administrators who *are* taking any kind of stand to support AI resistance or even just AI caution, we should applaud, encourage, and support them in this. And offer our help. Thanks to any of you who are out there.
