Apparently it is #WorldOceansDay so here is a bird that knows something about oceans: Common Tern Sterno hirundo (not an ocean behind it but a flooded pit at #RSPBDungeness !) #kentbirding #ukbirding

Seaside bouquet for #WildflowerHour Yellow Horned-poppy and Hair’s-Tail at #RSPBDungeness.
In case anybody has forgotten what the topic is tonight - OK it might just be me - here is a reminder:
When there is discussion about wildlife appearing on new bank notes here is Troglodytes troglodytes in an East Sussex wood putting in a bid from the days when it brightened the farthing. #sussexbirding #ukbirding
Youngsters are welcome at #RSPBDungeness … #kentbirding
A Large Red Damselfly in an East Sussex wood (only “large” in comparison to the Small Red Damselfly of course!). I think this is my first of the year though they are usually one of the earliest emerging. @britishdragonflies.bsky.social
Now you see me now you don’t: Painted Lady Vanessa cardui (these at #RSPBDungeness last weekend), one of the restless butterflies reaching our shores and beyond - apparently the only butterfly to reach Iceland. @savebutterflies.bsky.social
Easy to overlook perhaps - Brown Silver-line - especially if doing a bird survey, but surprisingly I didn’t. Not exactly a day-flying moth but easily disturbed especially when walking through an East Sussex wood with plenty of Bracken (the LHP). @savebutterflies.bsky.social

A female Large White attempting to blend in (they are not the most popular of butterflies) on #WallandMarsh recently. One of the first first brood, but many more will arrive from overseas later in the year - it is a migratory butterfly. @savebutterflies.bsky.social

12 gathered for the @sussexornitholo.bsky.social “Birds of the evening” walk at #AshdownForest last night with Cuckoo calling and Blackbird & Song Thrush singing. Unseasonably cold but 2 churring Nightjars after sunset and 2 great views of roding Woodcock with squeaky frog calls. #sussexbirding

Have you been taking part in #NoMowMay or opting for a #NoMowSummer? The challenge this week is to show us your #LawnFlowers! No lawn? See what’s blooming in another local grassed area instead. Share your pics for #WildflowerHour this Sunday 8-9pm. Happy flower hunting! 🌸🌾🌼
