As much as I've criticized Hockney for being a money grabber, he was perhaps one of the two most important british artists of all time just for being a queer icon during the 70's and refusing to stop painting as he aged. Hopefully history won't whitewash him

I still remember when I went to a exhibition and I heard someone say a drawing was bad because "he didn't finish the lineart." It baffled me. If the sketch works, then it works, if it doesn't, the artist is free to "fix it" as/if he sees fit

I think that the definition that sketches are "what you do before the lineart" has caused permanent damage to online artists. Most shit you put down in sketch won't even be there in a few moments, it's just important that you put stuff to see how it relates to the rest of the composition
