But seriously…if anyone here is struggling with or feeling affected by the #DoctorWho news, if you want to talk about it, I am here. Don’t let my ‘Gen X’ness put you off. I have sone interesting thoughts on the future (1/6)
I’m not going to bang on about the football, because it invites ‘protest too much?’ responses. Plus I dare say I’ll watch the Scotland highlights. But I always think that such big sprawling events are a good time to get into something *else*. A writer’s or film director’s back catalogue for example.
I think I’d prefer the likes of Crook over writers and programme makers such as Jack Thorne or Sally Wainwright (both of whom I’ve seen mentioned in the past as potential showrunners) purely because, while they’ve had drama hits, I’m not convinced they’d ‘get’ Doctor Who at all. (6/6)
Classic Doctor Who certainly had its darker sombre moments, if I think about it, those were the parts I loved the most (I’m a child of Phillip Hinchcliffe). Such an approach would likely eschew the massive FX budgets of recent years. (3/6)
Lots of highly premature speculation, but should Doctor Who return in any form, and given that ‘camp comedy’ has had its moment in the sun for quite some time, I do wonder if something more serious and contemplative, and *smaller* deserves a try. (2/6)
Treasure Trove, Crook’s own production company, was in part behind Small Prophets, but also of course (and rather appropriately) the revamped Worzel Gummidge… (5/6)
The real actual ending.
#HorrorWritersChat A Tesco bag full of still-warm human viscera. So, same as last year 🙄
Chasing big viewing figures is a thing of the past for most shows these days, and I sense a broad turn away from expansive franchises, so…maybe it’s time to shun macro and go micro. And maybe someone like MacKenzie Crook as showrunner/Doctor… (4/6)
The reason why so many people support parties like Reform and Restore is because they consider the actual responsibilities of government to be complex and boring, no matter how important and necessary they are to ensure the smooth running of the country. They don’t understand how anything works.
