The U.S. Forest Service has proposed budget cuts and is undergoing structural changes that critics say could hollow out its ability to carry out its mission.
Documents obtained by NPR, and interviews with current and former Forest Service researchers, show that much of the agency's research is already cheap and local — and closing research facilities could make it less so, while encouraging workers to leave the agency.

Senator Mike Lee is at it again, and this time, he’s coming after the Roadless Rule.
He has proposed an amendment to a bill being presented tomorrow in the Senate, the Wildfire Prevention Act. If successful, the amendment would nullify the Roadless Rule for 45 million acres of National Forests.
