That's a pogrom. She's describing a pogrom
“He would sing his song every single morning... When asked why he sang all the time, he replied that he had only two choices: 'Sing all the time, or cry and die. He preferred to sing.'” www.theguardian.com/world/2026/j...
A real challenge in Northern Irish politics is the extent to which loyalist paramilitaries seem to have reconstituted themselves as a sort of far right militia that can be mobilised against migrant communities.
I remember colleagues back at Bristol leaping to the defence of DM, an obvious bigot, when he was sacked. None seem to feel they were wrong to do so. Now that S is admitting 'yes, I hated Jews all along and now I can say it', I wonder if his defenders will admit to having been wrong? I doubt it.
Can't believe this even needs to be said, but "anti-Zionism is not antisemitism" and "Fiddler on the Roof is Zionist because it is Jewish" are not mutually compatible propositions.
I think it's bad that so few media sources seem able to criticize Israel for its real war crimes and apartheid without falling into antisemitic conspiracism. The belief the USS Liberty attack was deliberate is a neo-Nazi conspiracy. Israel, for all its many faults, had no reason to attack the US.
One of the major points I try to make in teaching Jewish history is that oppressed vs. oppressed is *not* a binary, but a complicated series of interrelationships that is deeply contextual, and that the same groups can fall into multiple categories, sometimes at the same time.
"Washington cannot undo the Khamenei strike, and it is in no position to condemn an operation it materially supported. What it can do, and ought to do, is formalize a legal position before the next conflict forces one out of it," writes William "Chip" Usher. www.lawfaremedia.org/article/kill...

Sounds bad for Labour - but at least they released guidance banning trans people from using public restrooms.
the thing about Le Guin is that she wrote so much, and almost all of it is good and a significant percentage of it is great. (I often reference her novel, "The Matter of Seggri," as the only story I know of to do 'but what if men were the oppressed gender' well)
