I do not dmbj much, but I will say if you want to dip a toe in it without losing a month of your life, the Mystic Nine: Qing Shan Hai Tang movie with Zhu Zanjin was pretty good and largely comprehensible without lots of other context (but probably doesn't really go far toward explaining much tbh)
