It appears my countrymen have arrived in the Americas and culturally appropriated a statue of George Washington.
the hollow earth variety then gets picked up by Himmler and the esoteric wing of Nazism, who in general the other Nazis looked at and thought 'wow, those guys are nuts.' But the esoteric version survives the war better, because it allows belief to continue long after material Nazism is ashes.
it's in the Western culturesphere enough to produce Lost Horizon, the 1930s novel and then film that embeds the idea of Shangri-La (Shambhala) as a magical utopian retreat from the world. However, it also gets taken up by hollow earthers, a *different* species of crankery that predates this.
