A really poignant reflection on the potentialities, precarities, slow progress (or lack thereof), and pigeonholing that comes with Indigenous representation in U.S. pop culture by a unique talent who was tragically murdered earlier this week in a senseless hate crime. Rest in power, Jonathan Joss. 💔

Jonathan Joss on Native American Acting and His Transformative ‘Parks and Recreation’ Experience

Feeling very thankful for the privilege and opportunity to attend a conference that did so much to restore, galvanize, and encourage. What a welcome site of conversation, connection, and compassion #SCMS25
Incredibly grateful for this thoughtful assessment by a mentor whose scholarship has never ceased to inspire & motivate and whose generosity has never ceased to awe & floor me @shelleystamp.bsky.social
In this terrifying political moment, it’s an acutely scary time to be a fledgling media scholar. Yet, gatherings like #SCMS25 offer key fonts of hope: the inspiring research & unfaltering generosity of so many brilliant scholars are a buoy, affirming the vital importance of our work and community.
It was an honor to chair and coordinate this #SCMS25 panel and present alongside brilliant scholars whose work is so vital for considering how we make use of media in moments of monumental challenge. Very thankful for this community that encourages reading media contextually & closely.
