The way he swings from celebration to wretched self recrimination & back is, for me at least, very relatable. He feels like a trickster archetype in the classic sense - tricksters aren't always in control or on top, or even always deceptive, necessarily. But they transgress & change things.
I don't have an original insight to offer, but appeasing fascists, or coddling prejudice of any kind, is shameful, counterproductive & indefensible. It ends in a nightmare, because it's based on fear & lies, & the enemy is entirely imaginary, so all it can do is escalate.
I have lots, lots more playing of both to do before gathering my thoughts & writing reviews. But generally speaking, Alley Cat put together a great range of games & they're a publisher I have a lot of respect for. Always interested in their latest offerings.
I read my daughter some more of The Wind in the Willows last night, the bit with Toad making his way home from jail. She *loved* it. When he encountered the car... my God. Beaming, she went 'oh no! He's going to want to drive it!' She was so rooting for him, even though he's very naughty.
Playing a bit of new dexterity game Spaghettin from Alley Cat Games. My main complaint so far is it's making me very hungry. Yet another game society won't let me eat
Also trying out Bookshelf. As an anxious, hypervigilant book- & cat-lover I am not sure if this game is therapy or trauma. Perhaps both.
