The recovery of #Puccinia graminis from aecia on #Berberis is nearing completion, with 36 samples collected in 2026 tested on a dozen grass and cereal species. Third year of data for Alicia Culot's PhD thesis, providing valuable information on primary hosts and formae speciales.

#Russia is increasing pressure on #Armenia in response to its rapprochement with the EU. New example illustrating “Plant #biosecurity and #phytosanitary regimes under threat from instrumentalization dynamics”. My analysis here, more relevant than ever ▶️ dx.doi.org/10.2139/ssrn...

#Rust on sea campion (#Silene uniflora) caused by #Uromyces behenis (Pointe du Grouin, FR).
The recovery test from #Berberis vulgaris to the presumed primary host, #Arrhenatherum elatius, was also successful 🥰, confirming the id of the #rust as #Puccinia arrhenatheri: pustules appeared on the upper leaf face and were larger than those of P. graminis (30–34 × 26–28 µm).
#Rust of Alexanders (Smyrnium olusatrum) caused by #Puccinia smyrnii (Saint-Malo, FR).
Our results reveal significant genetic isolation between wheat and triticale Puccinia triticina populations. However, a few triticale-derived isolates exhibit virulence profiles that are characterist...
The predictability is obvious.
Russia restricts flower imports from Armenia, while a team of the Russian Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance is in Armenia to conduct joint inspections at Armenian companies producing plant- and animal-based products.

First 2026 sampling day for stem #rust (#Puccinia graminis) on barberry (#Berberis vulgaris) around Dijon. On the Chenôve plateau, the aecia are already showing up!

#Rust on sea campion (#Silene uniflora, syn. Silene vulgaris subsp. maritima) caused by #Uromyces behenis, inducing characteristic purple spots. Aecia and telia are visible here on the leaves and stems, but this species does not produce urediniospores (Saint-Briac sur Mer, FR).

Fantastic diversity of shapes of #Puccinia graminis aecia, likely influenced by developmental stage, resistance level of #Berberis vulgaris, inoculum pressure, weather conditions at infection, and formae speciales (around Dijon, France). But can you identify the intruder? 🤔
(1/2) #Rust on sea campion (#Silene uniflora, syn. Silene vulgaris subsp. maritima) caused by #Uromyces sp. - maybe U. behenis or U. inaequialtus - here with aecia displaying white peridium (Cap Fréhel, FR), but also...
