CJEU, EU asylum law
Advocate General's opinion: Italy/Albania deal is compatible with EU law as regards detention in Albania, as long as guarantees for migrants/asylum-seekers are upheld curia.europa.eu/site/jcms/d2...
My article examines detention in the current draft of the EU Return Regulation, which was supported by right-wing and far-right parties in the EU Parliament. The desperate attempt to increase return rates relies on deterrence rather than effectiveness and violates human rights.

I am very (very, very) proud to see my first book published! Such a pleasure to hold this in my hand as a hard-copy version. Feel free to let me know if you would like to discuss the role of discretion for migration decision-making in Europe! @groningeneulaw.bsky.social @rug.nl @uni-konstanz.de
The proposed EU Return Regulation would massively expand detention – and de facto criminalise migrants seeking asylum.
RHEA KUMMER (@rheakummer.bsky.social) exposes where the draft violates the ECHR and the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights.
