Some books I've worked on are in the mix, & I feel very honored to have worked on them & that people are digging them. Ashita no Joe for classic manga & translation (Asa Yoneda's been doing excellent work on that!) Ultra Heaven for classic manga. Panorama Island for one-shot (new softcover edition)
Health-wise, this past year has been many long-delayed improvements and have made me happy. Money-wise, it's been terrible. Each year since moving back to the US, the money situation has gotten more dire, but this year I finally hit the wall. Just not enough money to keep it all together. Not fun.
PS: I posted this sad thread a few minutes before I saw the Manga Awards news. I don't want to be a bummer in folks' timelines on a day of good news.
I'll add that despite the shaky ground I'm on these days, I've been working on some very special manga and that makes me happy. 👍
I'll try to post something fun - or at least neutral - again soon. Hang in there... Just in a kind of deep pit this summer. Looking forward to Anime NYC. That's adding to my financial wreckage, but it's worth it for the much-needed camaraderie and escape from the normal everyday stuff.
Within a year, I went from someone who avoided exercise as much as possible, to now feeling like taking long walks & going to the gym are the only things keeping my mind/mood together enough to keep me from getting totally flattened by the weight of anxiety & depression. 😵
Hanging in there, though... barely!
In the richest country in the world, you shouldn't be afraid to leave your corporate job and start that small business you've been dreaming of simply because you can't afford to lose your healthcare.
