The blast occurred in Balashikha, a town just outside the Russian capital, when a device detonated in a moving BMW. Russian authorities confirmed that one person died at the scene, while media reports and Telegram channels identified the victim as a lieutenant general.
Last April, a senior general was killed in a car bomb attack in the same satellite town.
