Many High Seas #MPAs remain difficult to implement effectively.
The High Seas Treaty is a game changer: it could address governance gaps through coordinated procedures for proposal review, scientific assessment, monitoring & implementation, and integration among international institutions.
For decades, the High Seas were considered the "Wild West," making them vulnerable to #IUUFishing.
The #BBNJ Agreement will help change this by providing mechanisms to evaluate risky activities, empower local authorities, and establish MPAs.
