I did a panel earlier this year on character development, and the idea of "earned subversion," where there an "earned" payoff to keeping a characters traits very consistent for a long time, for the purpose of getting to make jokes way later on in their arc. This is my favorite example of this 😭😭

This one is interesting because it has a text article by Chris Claremont on the second film adaptation of Lone Wolf & Cub with no mention that the films are based on manga series. It also reprints a Silver Age Captain America story by Kirby with the martial arts connection being Batroc the Leaper.
