Happy Pride! Let’s keep pushing for the kind of inclusion & egalitarianism that doesn’t demand we “cover” or tone down our (minoritized) identities & blend into the mainstream 🌈

When people hear others’ views on politically sensitive topics (e.g., migration, abortion), they quickly become disrespectful or disengage. How can we express our views in such a way that they foster respect and interaction? @emilykubin.bsky.social, @kurtjgray.bsky.social & I studied this. 🧵1/7

Pleased to see this one out in its JOP-formatted version @thejop.bsky.social www.journals.uchicago.edu/doi/10.1086/...
Thrilled this is finally out in its JOP-formatted version! Hope it's useful to anyone working on LGBT politics, (electoral) discrimination, status differentials within & across identity categories, and non-textual experiments. Main findings in quoted thread. www.journals.uchicago.edu/doi/epdf/10....
Cool to see my recent @thejop.bsky.social study covered by LGBTQ Nation. And here's a recent Fox Chicago interview if you'd rather hear me talk about it: youtu.be/flb60Z7NksM?...

It’s #PrideMonth 🌈 & I'm proud to share my new JOP article. Using a survey experiment, I show: Republicans still penalize gay candidates. Democrats do not—but they do penalize even subtle gender nonconformity, expecting gay cands to look & sound “straight” www.journals.uchicago.edu/doi/10.1086/...

Our paper, “The Politics of Black Classification: Sociopolitical Cues and Racial Perception” (w/ Lauren Davenport & @hrendleman.bsky.social), has been conditionally accepted at Perspectives on Politics! Sharing abstract below. Long time coming, but we are really proud of this paper. More soon!

Friday’s workshop was a joy to host. ☺️ We brought together researchers and activists to talk about LGBTQ+ criminalization, discrimination at work and in parenting, dating bias, and how the far right weaponizes LGBTQ issues. Grateful to everyone involved and to VU's VICES for the support. 🏳️‍🌈
