With newspapers struggling to publish because of the strike, the Government launched its own paper - The British Gazette. It was a mix of news & #propaganda & edited by Winston Churchill. The edition shown & the other newspapers come from Edith Olivier's #archive. (WSHC 982/227)

#OTD 12 May the UK's 9-day #GeneralStrike1926 came to an end. It was also the day the weekly Salisbury & Winchester Journal published its first daily news bulletin. National newspaper printing & distribution were curtailed by the strike.
