João Pestana is the Portuguese version of the Sandman, and the subject of many lullabies and nursery rhymes. Though he helps children sleep by sprinkling magic dust in their eyes, he also personifies sleep, as he shyly tiptoes in when all is silent, but flees at the slightest noise. #WyrdWednesday
