a side effect of obliviously treating everyone I meet as peers is it's really funny how few people actually want to do the work of building rapport but still want you to believe them for high opportunity cost things

position, expertise, and status (and other things people think should automatically grant them respect and deference) matter far less to me than 'actually does what they said they would' and i don't know how that's such a high bar
