(similarly if you're going to be slow on something or need to do less work just say that so people can plan around it instead of everyone expecting you to finish it and then spinning wheels)

position, expertise, and status (and other things people think should automatically grant them respect and deference) matter far less to me than 'actually does what they said they would' and i don't know how that's such a high bar
