Another highlight last term was the annual "Year Abroad on Stage" where students from across the School of Modern Languages get to reflect on their experiences on the year abroad and turn it into a sketch show. The German contribution focussed heavily on Deutsche Bahn. #ShoutOutForGerman
We couldn't agree more with Sascha! And even if you missed out learning German at school, you can still pick it up later in life, for example during your studies as a degree (from scratch, even!) or in one of the language centre courses! #ShoutOutForGerman
We are already excited! Mandy Poetzsch, our Language Director for German, will discuss why language learning is still relevant in times of AI.
On October 2nd our colleagues Mark and Ruth organised an event to reflect on 35 years of German unity. It was wonderful to get the Bristol-Hannover and Bristol Anglo-German societies together and mix with our students. #ShoutOutForGerman
Translation goes esports! Human vs Machine live translation slams pit professional linguists against large language models. Our colleague Christophe Fricker runs them across the country. Join him in Warwick on 4 March for the next one. Details to follow!
#ShoutOutForGerman
Hooray! Well done Christophe!!! 🤩
Our fantastic Bristol German Society has created a Family Scheme which connects students across different year groups. The "families" had meals together and plans are afoot for a family scavenger hunt in TB2. A great way for students across cohorts to get to know each! #ShoutOutForGerman
on the last day of #ShoutOutForGerman a shout out to all the amazing teachers who teach German! If you would like us to come and talk to your students like our colleague Mandy did today in London, let us know!
There is no party like a DACHL launch party! Yesterday the 2026 edition of our German student magazine, produced by our students for our students and entirely in German, was revealed! The editorial team has produced a truly impressive edition. Read it here: dachl.blogs.bristol.ac.uk/2026/03/11/d...
It's #ShoutOutForGerman week! We are in the wonderful position here at Bristol to use, teach and research German culture and language every day. So, this week, we’ll shout out all the wonderful things that have happened last term!
First up, our wonderful “Weihnachtsbastelnachmittag” in December!
