I just learned that Carlo Ginzburg, one of the great historians of our time, has passed away at age 87 in Bologna. I had the good fortune to work with Carlo several times. He was driven by a fierce curiosity. I will write about him in my forthcoming book on the history of “history from below."

You'd think there should really be laws and rules saying you can't use national parks as a commercial billboard, or federal resources generally to pimp a company's brand, and especially not the military. Good news: we already have those laws! Bad news: the regime in power is literally lawless.
This was a phenomenal piece of writing. For those of us who weren't there, this is probably the closest we can get.
