As much as I love Lawrence and the Algeria-visits-Lawrence story (and I really do), this thread does discuss a slightly troubling aspect of the story. For those who don't know, Lawrence is not anything like the rest of Kansas.

World Cup headlines keep describing Lawrence as a “small town in Kansas,” which is technically true but a lot of these stories are implying a level of conservatism and yokel-ness (yokality?) that doesn’t really exist there.
