Monsoon Preview!
GFS PWAT (precipitable water) anomaly shows subtropical moisture moving northward and across AZ over the next few days.

The boundary keeps shifting south and more storms are approaching from the west. It rained -- finally -- at my house. Nice preview of the monsoon!
Well, things may get interesting here! Cluster of thunderstorms moving to the east is about to run into an E-W boundary.

Moisture arrived and there were a few showers around the area this afternoon/evening. Reports were generally only a few hundredths of an inch--or zero. Also got to see a rainbow right at sunset.

The planets Mercury, Venus, and Jupiter continue to put on a show during evening twilight--including a reflection of Mercury in the calm waters of Lake Mary near Flagstaff, Arizona.

Today's run followed Sunset, Brookbank, Swell, and Schultz Creek trails. A bit of rain last night helped to hold down the dust and an overcast sky kept it cool during the run. Wildflowers are doing well! About 6.3 miles.

Did a run on Weatherford and Kachina Trails north of Flagstaff today. Both of these trails burned in the 2022 Pipeline fire but things are starting to recover especially aspen and ferns. About 6.8 miles and 1450' vertical. And lots of rocks.

A subtropical high over Mexico continues to push moisture northward into AZ and the surrounding area. Radar shows a lot of shower activity this afternoon.
Alas, it will dry out this week and the sustained push of moisture will come later in June. Or July.

Composite from 4 nights showing the relative positions of Jupiter, Venus, and Mercury. In the composite, Jupiter was held fixed while the others were allowed to shift.
All images were taken from the same location at Lake Mary near Flagstaff, Arizona.
