Goemon's Great Adventure (N64) (1999)
1/6
When I fired it up earlier to take snaps and do my little thread on it, I thought hold on, this sounds like…. And yeah, very Deus Ex and Unreal-ey. Its one of the things that sets Age of Wonders apart, using Impulse Tracker to give it that certain oomph and some dynamism as you play.
If there's a familiar audio vibe to the title screen for Age of Wonders (1999), it's because it's Impulse Tracker music from the same ex-Dutch Amiga demoscene composer as Unreal Tournament and Deus Ex: Michiel van den Bos.

A challenger to the throne held by Heroes of Might & Magic — with some tricks up its sleeve and an awesome Impulse Tracker soundtrack.
AoW felt like something pretty special, blending deeper role-playing and Civ-like elements into the familiar mix.
I especially love the big box with its glossy black sheen and fantasy artwork that's pretty generic but manages to stand out on it.
It's one of those series' that is still going, with Age of Wonders 4 released a few years ago. And a sci-fi spinoff before that.
A cute mascot for JAST's series of 'JustSound' voice synthesizers for NEC computers (primarily PC-98) in 1989.
Now you could have (some) of your favourite bishoujo games read to you via the printer port and PCM audio in what the ad promised as a 'natural voice'.

Still thinking about this #oops
And here’s the second version with additional layers for light and shading. Suddenly the colors bumps from the 36 of the original to over 300! Which version do you prefer? Drawn in resolution 240px x 160; equivalent to the GBA <3

A reminder to the #evangelion girlies out there, I've scanned 25 materials related to the series ranging from official photobooks, doujin, pachinko strategy guides, 3D modelling software, screensaver collections, figure books, and even GAINAX endorsed(?) BL, check em out!
