#NewIllustrationoftheDay by Amber Au. Spread from The Blue Tomato, about wanting to fit in. Harmonious neutral colours set off the central drama of blue versus red. Soft, crayon-y lines and detail to explore of the blue protagonist's research. Little Tiger Press 4 June. @littletigeruk.bsky.social
I took a daughter and a handkerchief with me to see War Horse at the National Theatre last night (not for the first time). I loved it again. The stagecraft, the music, the puppets, the drawings, the storytelling! All wonderful. Though I needed the handkerchief a lot. And the hand of the daughter.
#NewIllustrationOfTheDay. Another of the new talents longlisted this week for the World illustration Awards. So many lovely things in this category I shall share a few more. This is by Marysia Wisnieska from her unpublished book Leaf and made using watercolour, dry pastels and colouring pencils.
#NewIllustrationOfTheDay. An illustration to an unpublished Cinderella by emerging illustrator Lemady Rochard, another of the new talents longlisted in the children’s publishing category of the World Illustration Awards. Made on Procreate with handmade textures from paint, pastels, inks and prints.

#NewIllustrationoftheDay. So much of the story of Ed Vere's Waffles and Julius: No Hugs Please is told in the pictures. Waffles loves hugs. Julius does NOT. Comedy and character economically expressed with flat colour and playful line. Puffin 4 June. @edvere.bsky.social @puffinbooksuk.bsky.social
#NewIllustrationoftheDay by Satoshi Kitamura from Pyramid Boy about a boy who travels in time to Ancient Egypt. Walker 4 June. In this eventful, angular, ink-&-watercolour spread he chases a cat from a museum through a sarcophagus into the blue & out again up a staircase. @walkerbooksuk.bsky.social
#NewIllustrationoftheDay by Lancashire-based Genevieve Aspinall from her Tigers Don't Eat Jelly. Fox and Ink 4 June. Gouache with pencil crayon detail. Aspinall was also just longlisted in the children's publishing professional category of the World Illustration Awards. @foxandinkbooks.bsky.social
#NewIllustrationOfTheDay. Festive limited edition print by Axel Scheffler from the goody bag for Nosy Crow’s 15th birthday celebration last night, a party that was indeed thronged with the Crow’s friends. Congratulations & thanks to Kate Wilson (excellent speech) & her team. @nosycrow.bsky.social
#NewIllustrationoftheDay. A page by Mark Chambers from I, Rock, written by Eoin McLaughlin. A very funny picturebook - visually and verbally - about a rock that's hoping a dinosaur friend will show up for its three billionth birthday. HarperCollins Children's Books 4 June. @harpercollins.bsky.social
#NewIllustrationOfTheDay by Italian illustrator Enrico Lorenzi, who mixes traditional and digital techniques. From Are You Looking at Me? with text by Philip Ardagh, which explores which animal has the stariest stare. This spread is turned sideways. Little Tiger 4 June. @littletigeruk.bsky.social
