i found out that 54 years ago today both The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars AND the debut lp from Roxy Music were released. i repeat, on the same day. i know there are other instances, but i’m letting this one sink in for now
there are some people on BlueSky who i have never met, and sadly may never meet in person. but they simply exude compassion, warmth, generosity and all round decency. i’m not going embarrass people by naming names. some probably know who you are. some maybe surprised. but thank you, i love you all x
#DavidsMonthOfMusic Day 11: a song from one of your first concerts Gary Numan - Metal my first concert, Cliffs Pavilion, Southend On Sea, 1983. in hindsight it was an iffy gig supporting a crap lp with a band that had a “slap” bass player! i wish it sounded like this…. youtu.be/ZmZ6_tbLgXM?...
#DavidsMonthOfMusic Day 14: with hot or cold in the title T. Rex - Hot Love i’m not a massive Bolan fan, but when he got it right the results were just sublime. sure, the ending goes on 2 minutes too long - but the verses are wonderful and fill my heart with such warmth youtu.be/grXr21GQEo0?...
#DavidsMonthOfMusic Day 12: a one word, four letter song Propaganda - Duel i remember this following Dr.Mabuse and being slightly disappointed by how conventional it sounded in comparison. but seriously - this is just a wonderful pop song. what’s not to love? youtu.be/nnQ2zOmb6Hg?...
#DavidsMonthOfMusic Day 15: a live track Neil Young - Last Dance the follow up to multi platinum selling mellow vibe lp “Harvest” was a live lp comprising new songs. most were recorded during a bad tempered tour, with no fucks even given to the vocals being in tune youtu.be/7FciEHJvecQ?...
#DavidsMonthOfMusic Day 13: a comfort song Orchestrated Manoeuvres In The Dark - Messages a song that always makes me feel warm inside, get up and shake my body, and sing my lungs out. no matter my mood, this is my comfort blanket. and my, those bass runs at the end…! youtu.be/WXvlzUCB74o?...
#DavidsMonthOfMusic Day 9: before, after, since or until in the title Yazoo - I Before E Except After C Vince and Alison decide to have a go at making their very own Revolution 9, and put it slap bang in the middle of side one of their debut lp youtu.be/CScim3ftVh8?...
#DavidsMonthOfMusic Day 10: with the word song in the title Blur - Good Song who would have guessed? Graham Coxon (temporarily) gone and the band record one of their greatest moments. the tragedy is, since he’s returned they’ve never played it live.. youtu.be/VRrJugyk1Yw?...
#DavidsMonthOfMusic Day 16: a song by a band with more than one vocalist Grateful Dead - Attics Of My Life in many ways this song encapsulates what the band mean to me. the harmonies clearly inspired by CSNY, but more imperfect, relatable and real. and it’s so beautiful youtu.be/44R_68JS1bE?...
