Wow! Very interesting decision by @nature.com towards transparent peer review. Also preparing emotionally for the 20-page rebuttals ahead! ☺️
IAS 2025 has officially kicked off in Kigali. The opening session was very moving and powerful reminder of what’s at stake. Strong (mostly female) voices from across the HIV response, and a powerful community protest (“We will not be erased”) resonated deeply.
Our group was recognized as one of the “Best Research Environments of 2024” by @jungeakademie.bsky.social and Volkswagenstiftung. We didn’t get lucky in the raffle for the prize money but we’re proud of the recognition and even more proud of team Gaebler Lab that made it possible!🙏🎊👏🎉
Our paper on the second Berlin patient came out in Nature today and I’m really happy we can share this story on World AIDS Day. I want to thank everyone on the team and all co-authors for their work over the years.

Most of all, I want to thank the second Berlin patient.
It’s his story before it’s anyone else’s.
Days like today remind me why we do this. HIV has taken so many lives and still takes far too many. Stories like this give hope that we can actually bring this epidemic to an end.
Our preprint is out! Q4ddPCR is a 4-target ddPCR assay for high-resolution HIV reservoir profiling validated on proviral sequences and across multiple cohorts. It supports HIV cure trials where precision matters.
Thanks to Rachel Scheck, Brad Jones & all co-authors.

Being here in Africa, with so many colleagues, community leaders, scientists, and advocates, feels more important than ever and the call to action has never felt more urgent. Looking forward to the conversations, connections and momentum we’ll build in the days ahead.
We are currently recruiting a bioinformatics/computational biology postdoc to join the infrastructure project of a newly funded large research consortium (SFB-TRR) on Circadian Medicine between Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin and Universität zu Lübeck ⌚ ⏰ ⏱️ 🕰️ !
