This is NOT AI. These are green dragontail butterflies (Lamproptera meges), native to S & SE Asia.
They compensate for undersized wings with long 'swallowtails' to generate lift.
Butterflies that fly in cursive, swimming like fish through the air.

This was fun, quick and really nice to look at and think about forests for a while! Worth a few minutes of your time! ππ»

Eels, in an early life stage called leptocephalus, drift with the plankton, eating tiny invertebrates and fish.
Shot using scuba, at night, while drifting with the plankton, out over the deep abyss.

The UKβs strangest avian couple at the Long Nanny, Northumberland this morning - the female American Black Tern with the same male Arctic Tern she bred (unsuccessfully) with in 2024. A small nest scrape but no eggs as yet. #NEbirding #rarebirdsUK
Timmy, the humpback whale stranded in Germany for 6 weeks, was released on Saturday after a chaotic rescue operation that shocked marine biologists. It's unclear where Timmy is now; he may already be dead.
Here's my story about the case:

I think this is a cool initiative by BES. But it's also a sign of what a huge distance we still have to travel if non-confirmatory results command a dedicated special issue. They shouldn't be "special". besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/hub/journal/...

Just found out about the new science journal "Stacks". The editorial board includes the legendary @elisabethbik.bsky.social. Publication costs are what they should be. Moreover, it has an interesting peer-review where reviewers interact, agree and vote for publications. stacksjournal.org
