Cailan fully knew who Alistair was, knew either WHAT Loghain was planning or at least that he was going to do SOMETHING, and had Duncan send Alistair as far away from the battlefield as he could get on purpose.
Especially with a Cousland origin; there's no way he didn't realize that was connected.
