A lively and charming comedy. The niece from Osaka is so fascinating. An enthusiastic smoker, drinker, and patron of geisha clubs, she embodies a longing for a less rigid, more cosmopolitan Japan felt throughout the film. She's also one of the more overtly queer coded characters in Ozu's oeuvre
