I didn’t make it. She’s gone.
I've never been opposed to the word "hallucinating" for describing how AI makes mistakes ... until now. Why now? I just talked to someone who thought AI hallucinations would be obvious because it would be obvious if you talked to a *person* who was hallucinating. 😱 2/2
And to be in your face about it (and I'm going to presume I'm allowed some leeway today) ... I suggest that it might make the world a better place for your loved ones some horrible day in the future if you did something like this for them too. 4/4
Her final wish before signing off with all her love was for us to make the world a better place. It's a wonderful thing to have. She was always thinking of others, and she made the world a better place by being in it and made it a better place for us today by leaving this gift. 3/4
In other words, they equated "hallucination" with "sounds wacko" and accepted AI output as true because it sounded levelheaded. The word "hallucination" isn't going away, so we need to explain it better: "Hallucination" is just a fancy word for "confidently makes mistakes." 2/2
I just got a call that my mother is in the ICU and probably won't make it through the day. She was fine yesterday, and I'm in shock. We just said goodbye on Facetime. Rushing to to the airport to try to see her in person again. Hug your loved ones.
Thank you to everyone who posted kind messages about the loss of my mother. I appreciate you all so much, and I have a small nice story to share. This morning my stepdad found a letter she had written for us back in 1995 labeled "last thoughts." 1/4
I loved this book -- a weird and wonderful tale of unlikely love.
Apparently, she had been on a trip and something unknown happened that made her feel like she might not make it home. When she did get home, she then put the letter in an envelope in a drawer. It wasn't a long letter, but it had a sentence or two for each of us, and I'll cherish it forever. 2/4
This time of year, new grads always ask me how to find freelance work, so I put together my best tips. Share it with people you know who are looking for gigs! APPLE: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/h... YOUTUBE: youtu.be/N7BCrTCVqz4 TRANSCRIPT: www.quickanddirtytips.com/transcripts/...
