Unit of AFGE Local 3403 representing staff at the National Endowment for the Humanities. Local 3403 represents federal workers supporting art, research, and culture across the United States and territories.

This could be a good sign - that #NEH needs more staff (no kidding) as they prepare to reinstate grants - but also note that these positions are being advertised as GS-7-9 - paying $30k+ less than in the past. To do the same work as those of us who were fired. Think that through for a moment.
New article drops today on the one-year anniversary of the firing of most National Endowment for the Humanities staff, an action led by these #DOGE bros. These two aren't builders - they're destroyers. We, the #humanities, are the builders & creators of better worlds. Someday we'll build again.
The National Endowment for the Humanities is hiring for Grants Management Specialists ("many vacancies") - yet with the restriction on applicants to be "Recent Graduates" (in the past two yrs), this effectively cuts out many of our colleagues who were fired from the exact same positions last year.

News flash: It wasn't "the Left" that broke into the National Endowment for the Humanities, cancelled nearly all grants and programs, fired the majority of civil servant staff, and sharply narrowed the vision of what the #humanities is. Do we really need to spell this out? šŸ¤” #NEH
"When government experts can be fired without cause, it's not just federal workers who are harmed — it's the people across the country who rely on these essential services every day."
Our morale has been boosted by this news as well, @princeton.edu - but it'll really take off when your grants are reinstated. And even more, when our terminated positions are reinstated as well. #NEH

"In the deposition scene, Cavanaugh is asked if he regrets that the people he helped terminate at #DOGE lost important income. 'No,' he responds." The destruction of the National Endowment of the Humanities was, and remains, a labor issue (or rather, the ignorance of labor).
Since we here at @nehafge3403.bsky.social are going a bit viral this morning (at least in Bluesky terms), here's a short solution for all the issues of the #humanities ( #NEH included):

"One example of DOGE’s behavior was what it did to the National Endowment for the Humanities. By the time it was done, it had rescinded almost every then-active grant made by the agency during the Biden administration. Two-thirds of its staff were let go." #NEH

So the two DOGE staffers who used ChatGPT to cut all those grants and programs and who struggled to define DEI in that viral deposition footage have a new startup: DOGE for the public sector. I wrote about them and the myth of the ā€œbuilderā€ as a disguise for something more insidious
