The cedar waxwing was old enough to leave the nest but what about this little guy?
Still yes! The eyes are open and most of the wing feathers have grown in. This is a baby dark-eyed junco, one of the more common avian visitors to the campus!

This little fella couldn't be returned to the nest due to the height and location, but its parents were quite aware and even scolded the staff member who relocated the baby to a more sheltered area away from human visitors to the Museum, so it didn't need to be sent to a wildlife rehab facility!
We can hear the screechy calls of dark-eyed junco nestlings from the eaves of the Railway Education Center already! It's almost their time...
Watch your step around the REC building. The fledglings often first land on the deck as pictured above!
Instead of trespassing on active railway lines to place coins on the tracks, this offers another safe, alternative use for spare change.
It's going to be a scorcher today and tomorrow! Take it easy, stay hydrated, and consider coming to visit the Snoqualmie Depot or Train Shed Exhibit Hall if you need a place to cool off!

This may look similar to the other, but there are a few key differences! This one doesn't have open eyes and there are still a lot of visible pinfeathers with the keratin sheath around them. This sort of bird ought to be returned to the nest if possible.
