Full time carer, a little bit of local patch birding and photography to keep things sane(ish).

Magpie at Low Newton.
Interesting acro trapped in the Crown Estate Field this mrng - suspect it's going to turn out to be a Blyth's Reed but certainly a pretty subtle one - plumage not too bad, decent biometrics, poor p4 emargination etc. No field views & no calls.

The Rosy Starling hasn't been seen for a couple of days now at Low Newton, I'm guessing it's moved on.
Here's a short video clip from the scrapes field 3 days ago.

This excellent new book just arrived ! It's a cracking read, packed with local knowledge, useful data & capturing decades of dedicated patch birding.

I'm going to be keeping an eye on this account ! I wasn't aware that @northumbrianwater.bsky.social were discharging raw sewage into Embleton Burn. 😦
If you look at this map it is shocking.

The last 2 days I've witnessed the starling flock at Low Newton beach getting flushed & pushed around by photographers chasing the Rosy Starling. Others have reported this too.
Whatever happened to 'the birds welfare comes first' and that silly old thing called 'fieldcraft' ?

2 Manky Mandarins at Low Newton this morning, only the 3rd and 4th I've ever seen here, they seem to be increasing in Northumberland generally tho.
Also a light passage of Swifts heading south this morning.

Back for some more Rosy Starling action at Low Newton this morning. Seemed pretty mobile today, watched it moving between the scrapes field, the sheep field above it, various gardens and the beach.

Incredible numbers of Little Terns at the Long Nanny this year, 126 nests at the last count !! I've never seen numbers like this, normally reaching 50 pairs is considered excellent. High tides today & tomorrow are concerning, hope they don't wash out too many nests. 🤞🤞🤞
