CHECKMATE!
Tremendous piece of work from the New Yorker Magazine on the Tate brothers and the rise, and imminent fall, of the "manosphere." Kudos to writer Heidi Blake, and all the people who spoke on and off the record. www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...?
My latest on the touch move rule and patterns that hold from kindergarten to Karpov to Kasparov. jenshahade.substack.com/p/touch-move...
Yesterday I got an inquiry from someone who wanted me to promote their AI-generated book.
It even has a fake quote from me, misattributing someone else’s idea to me. Layers on layers!
Just as I was reeling, another AI pitch to promote content hit my inbox.
The loss of trust is heartbreaking. It's harder to take chances on mentoring artists & writers who reach out cold. In Thinking Sideways I write about the power of rejection therapy (stacking up nos to make sure you’re being brave) but this does not apply to cold emails anymore bc so many are AI😭
Fabian and I discuss Marcel Duchamp, the Fountain and an infinite game.

"Reading this book will take you on a journey of thinking. Not just thinking in straight lines, but thinking sideways. The idea is that if you want to solve a problem, you should approach it from every possible angle. When the direct approach stalls or fails, there may be a side alley you can try."

On the Edge with Jennifer Shahade: I had a great discussion with David Hill on Thinking Sideways and On the Edge, where we get into a lot of meaty topics, from decision paralysis and chess dropouts to the manosphere and cheating in chess, poker and AI. davidhill.substack.com/cp/199190255
